This shop will get someone killed, and there is nothing I can do about it.
Please share, who ever has bought this car, or others from this shop may be in danger.
I am more than frustrated, I have been reaching out to people and government bodies to see what I can do, and now after a month I find out there is nothing I can do.

    Forty years of probably screwing other customers and now lying about what he has done here. He put those resistors in permanently and now trying to weasel out now that he got caught. He is more concerned about getting caught and the bad publicity he is about to get. Good you named him. Yeah right, he was going to disclose it to the customer; that will make it legal--nudge/wink. This guy and his son have no ethics. He should have just quit talking instead of digging a deeper hole telling more lies. Unfortunately, that's the way it works until someone gets hurt or killed, THEN the law steps in. Wait until the car is sold and Registered, then step in with what you knew? I can understand how you feel over this scumbag attempting to get you involved with his dishonesty or what to do about what he tried to pull.

    Nothing new. Taking shortcuts to cut overhead on cars happens from the original manufacturer to the junkyard has always happened and will continue. Buyer beware. It's always been the case. We do an abysmal job in this country at educating ourselves as consumers. There is a price to be paid for that complacency. This subject brings up a better topic. Which is why it should be made illegal for cars to not be 100% user serviceable. That includes your(or dealer) programming services. All the technologies that supposedly make us safer are failing. While there have been initial declines in fatality rates after tech introductions, they have all been negated in less than a decade. Finally, my final point, as constructively as possible, don't make serious accusations and then show the drama and no evidence. On that model, are the resistors merely defeating an irritating no seatbelt alarm, are they simply keeping the ECM from throwing codes, or are they defeating a warning of missing or damaged electro-mechanical restraining system. Instead of showing nothing but the stupid drama, which could be overblown, show us some info on what that hack is doing and why it's a bad idea. No one should just take your word for the danger any more than taking a dealers word for "everything works great."

    • @L1Training

      That's the pretensioner pyrotechnic deployment loop. The thing that locks the belt. Also, the asshat admitted it on the recording, so there's your proof.

    • @guitchess
      @guitchess 8 годин тому

      @@L1Training So be it. I know nothing about that model. Now, the question is, would the resister hack keep the "pyrotechnics" from deploying, or would it fire both sides regardless of seat occupancy? While it may seem as though I'm defending the indefensible, I'm not. I don't trust any dealer any farther than I could throw them. But, you're making such a big deal of this one situation. Trying to ruin a man's business and his freedom. They could just as easily buy the same crap from 1000 places down the road. However, I don't want more laws saying I can't mod my car. Don't want more things requiring licenses to earn money for bureaucracy. I don't want more laws driving up the cost of cars. FYI over the last 60 years, the cost of a car has went up 60% while the fatal accidents are only down by 11%(depending on measured year) and fuel efficiency is only up 22%. All while becoming less dependable. IMHO that whole car is a death trap, but to each their own.

    • @guitchess
      @guitchess 8 годин тому

      Also, that scare tactic news vid at the end(unrelated to your situation) was just that, a scare tactic. Tragic? yes. Horrible that some one faked an airbag? yes. However, there was no mention of what caused the accident. No mention of whether she was wearing a seatbelt. Just manipulation. An ounce of prevention probably would have made the fake airbag irrelevant

    This will be the downfall of my family business. I trained myself on computer programming and pico scopes, forscan coding only for my dad to cut corners in the end. Now we are overrun from lawsuits from my dad cutting corners on engine jobs. My dad only put me on the jobs his "yes" men couldn't figure out on wiring and drive ability. I gave my life to my family business, and I'll be left with nothing now, because my dad cut corners My dad always blamed the manufacturers for making stuff complicated. The worst part about it is that my reputation will be damaged because of my dad I always took pride in helping people with knowledge because dad didn't pay me very much and the gratitude i got for educating the customer was the only payment i got.

    Seen a few comments to the effect of "But the primary air bags will still deploy" i guess this suggests its not veiwed as being sooo bad..... Here's my thoughts. Short story, who knows how the SRS control module may behave in the event of an accident. Long story, The dummy resistors are unlikely to behave the same as the pretensioner igniters. This is because although the SRS module is looking for a 2-3 Ohm load, i suspect the igniter wont have a purely resistive impedance. I'd hazard guess the igniter has a heater element, which would be subject the inductance and PTC heating effect, both of which would affect the operating impedance (It would increase when operating). If this is the case, a purely resistive load like a dummy resistor would allow much higher Current flow during a deployment, which could... Cause an over Current, and if the other air bags used a common driver circuit within the SRS module, this may fail to operate correctly/at all. Cause a DTC to set and since a fault is detected, airbags may fail to deploy/have increased latency. Lets not forget the exact circuit designs and logic behind every manufacturers SRS systems is different, so what may work with one, wont with another. No part of any SRS system should be modified, regardless or how important you view its function.... or if you think the rest of the system will operate correctly. It took balls to call this one out, i have no doubt you may face some criticism, but you have my respect big time. Fucking twisted wires and tape..... wasn't even a hack done well.....

    I know the video is only one day old when writing this, but any updates on what ended up happening? Need more people like you in the industry willing to stand up and speak about issues like this. Seen it time and time again, and the scary thing is, there is absolutely no way of knowing if this has been done unless you went through every safety device and set eyes on it, even then the resistors could be placed anywhere in the circuit, so until you really need them how can anyone really know if their used car is actually safe…. Well done for exposing this dealer, it’s scary how laid back they sound about the situation not realising that they could kill someone or multiple people who think there car is as safe as when it left the factory….
